Quarterly Budgets

Where does USG's money come from?

Budgets are submitted and approved in 4 quarters throughout the year. Submitted budget items are evaluated and approved first by the Allocations Committee, and then approved or rejected through a vote by the General Assembly. The Undergraduate Student Government's annual revenue stream comes from two sources: the Student Activity Fee, and Coca Cola Endowment money. The budget quarters for each fiscal year are organized as follows:

Fiscal Quarter 1 July 1 - September 30
Fiscal Quarter 2 October 1 - December 31
Fiscal Quarter 3 January 1 - March 31
Fiscal Quarter 4 April 1 - June 30

USG receives a portion of its funding from the Student Activity Fee. The fee is charged to all undergraduate, graduate and professional students enrolled at the Ohio State Columbus campus only, which does not include students from Ohio State's regional campuses. USG receives 5.85% of the roughly $4.6 million generated by this fee. USG reports its budget on a per-semester basis to the Council on Student Affairs (CSA) Allocations Committee, sharing information about what they have used funds for, upcoming plans, and the success of their past programs. This money is used specifically for projects and programs that serve students, or reallocated to student organizations through the USG Allocations committee.

USG also receives Coca-Cola Endowment money. This is funding donated to USG as a grant from the Coca-Cola and Ohio State partnership, for our student government to further invest in leadership development initiatives. This funding provides USG with additional funding beyond the Student Activity Fee, and is used to fund leadership activities at the discretion of the Chief Financial Officer.
