Sustainability

Role and Mission

The Sustainability committee strives to improve our environmental ethic as a campus and to enhance students’ understanding of important issues such as climate change, waste reduction, and habitat loss. Our committee is not only driven by people that have an extensive environmental background, but also by people who truly want to learn about how they can help the planet. This committee operates under the philosophy that what someone wants to accomplish, we will work on. All ideas are accepted and promoted.

Co-Directors of Sustainability

Comelia Soltanirad.6

My name is Comelia Soltanirad and I am a 4th year chemistry major, and I am one of the co-directors of Sustainability! I am passionate about environmentalism and sustainability and I am so excited to be in this role. After graduation, I plan on going to graduate school in data analytics, and plan on working in the biotechnology field. In my free time, I enjoy working out, thrifting, exploring local coffee shop, and sewing.

Annalise Khandelwal.60

My name is Annalise Khandelwal, and I am a fifth-year environmental science major with a neuroscience minor. After I graduate, I plan on attending graduate school to study environmental public health or climate science. When I am not in class or studying, I like to do yoga, cook, draw, and of course, hang out with my friends in sustainability! I am thrilled to be working as the co-director of the Sustainability Committee and can’t wait to see what amazing things we’ll accomplish this year!

Projects & Policy

Our committee focuses on hosting events around campus that educate the student body on sustainability, as well as promote a greener campus! One of our biggest events is the Sustainability Market, which is every fall and spring on the Main Oval. This event brings in dozens of local vendors, which uplifts local businesses and allows for the student body to shop sustainably. We also bring in guest speakers, educating students on the important of the different aspects of environmentalism. Furthermore, we focus on writing policy, which calls on Ohio State to be more sustainable.
