Petition Guidelines

Information about the petitioning process can be found in the Elections Bylaws document. Candidates may print and use the petition form linked on the right side of this page to collect signatures in-person, or they can collect digital signatures through Microsoft Forms. Below is a link to the Digital Petition Guidelines and a step-by-step tutorial for how to create a secure digital petition form.

Steps for creating a secure digital petition


Information Sessions

All candidates for elected positions must attend an information session in order to be eligible to run. All 2025 information sessions will held virtually via Zoom on the following dates (Zoom links to be added as each date approaches):

Important Dates & Deadlines:

  • Monday, January 12th, 2026: Candidates may start collecting petition signatures (FDOC)

  • Friday, February 6th, 2026: Signatures are due back to the Judicial Panel

  • Friday, February 13th, 2026: Last day for the Judicial Panel to confirm signatures and let candidates know if they’re on the ballot

  •  Sunday, March 1st, 2026 (at 8PM): Campaigning begins

  • Monday, March 9th, 2026 (at 12PM): Voting begins

  • Wednesday, March 11th, 2026 (at 11:59PM): Campaigning and Voting Ends


Dates & Deadlines (Initiatives and Referenda):

  • Friday, January 23, 2026: Initiatives and referenda are due to the Judicial Panel for review (no signatures)
  • Friday, January 30, 2026: Deadline for the Senior Vice President of Student Life to confirm the initiative language
  • (on or before) Monday, February 2, 2026: Deadline for the Judicial Panel to return the reviewed initiative and referenda to the original sponsors
  • Friday, February 20, 2026: Deadline for sponsors to return initiative and referenda petition signatures to the Judicial Panel for verification
  • Friday, February 27, 2026: Deadline for Judicial Panel to inform sponsors of their status

Voting System Access for Students

If you are an enrolled undergraduate student and you are unable to access the voting system due an error, please email usgelections@osu.edu before the end of the specified voting period. Include your first and last name, dot number, college, the candidates you wish to vote for, and a screenshot of the error you encountered when trying to access the voting system. Candidate names must match the spelling that appears on the official Election Ballot or correctly spell the name of the write-in candidate.

If you are an international student currently located outside of the United States and you are unable to access the voting system due to internet restrictions in your country, please email usgelections@osu.edu before the end of the specified voting period. Include your first and last name, dot number, college, the candidates you wish to vote for, and a screenshot of the error you encountered when trying to access the voting system. Candidate names must match the spelling that appears on the official Election Ballot or correctly spell the name of the write-in candidate.
