Role and Mission

The Communications committee strives to maintain open and honest communication between the Undergraduate Student Government and its constituents. The committee's work has been intentionally organized around strengthening the committee’s institutional presence, expanding student engagement, and improving transparency across the Undergraduate Student Government.

Strategic Priorities

The Communications Committee has centered its efforts on five core priorities:

  • Establishing the Communications Committee as a primary, highly functional department within the Undergraduate Student Government

  • Increasing student awareness of and engagement with existing opportunities and resources

  • Enhancing transparency and accessibility of organizational information for the broader student body

  • Driving stronger, more consistent engagement with USG content across platforms

  • Expanding student participation in the Undergraduate Student Government elections


Key Initiatives and Projects 

  • Audience Growth and Platform Development
    • Achieved growth of more than 2,500 followers across USG platforms over the past two years

    • Purchased and launched a mass communications platform (Constant Contact) to expand direct student outreach

    • Beginning mass emailing efforts to reach the broader student body more consistently

  • Content Strategy and Student-Focused Storytelling
    • Shifted toward more student-centered advertising and visual storytelling

    • Increased use of reels, photography, and dynamic media in place of text-heavy graphics

    • Implemented consistent event recaps to highlight tangible committee work

    • Launched New Member Monday Instagram stories to spotlight organizational involvement

    • Maintained daily story engagement and regular Instagram posting cadence

  • Transparency and Information Access
    • Launched the weekly General Assembly newsletter to improve visibility into legislative work

    • Established a broader student newsletter to centralize organizational updates

    • Expanded promotion of the USG External Feedback Form, including placement on Union TVs

    • Increased use of the Student Life Calendar to improve event visibility

  • Election Engagement Efforts
    • Designed and launched a targeted engagement campaign to increase participation in USG elections

    • Implemented Meet the Candidates features to improve voter awareness

    • Leveraged daily stories, Union TVs, Student Life Calendars, and email outreach to reinforce election visibility

  • Operational Improvements
    • Successfully integrated three new members into the Communications Committee

    • Revamped and relaunched the internal marketing request system to streamline cross-organizational collaboration
