Get Involved

Get Involved with Undergraduate Student Government!

USG Freshman Intern Program

What You Can Do

In order to be the best student government possible, USG needs YOUR help! There are lots of ways for you to get involved, from running for an elected position to joining the USG cabinet to serving on a University Committee.

Intern

An opportunity for first year students to learn about USG and take the first step towards involvement.  This year's intern class will consist of 30 freshmen selected through an application and interview process.  As an intern, you will follow a program designed by your directors to initiate and integrate you into the inner workings of USG and the university. This is a wonderful chance to meet other first year students and build your team working and leadership skills.  The intern class for 2008-2009 was selected in October, 2008.

Run For An Office

Each spring, USG holds annual elections for a variety of positions. Information about how to run for office is determined by an Elections Governance Board and will be posted on the USG website. Information sessions will occur around the 6th week of Winter Quarter.  Open positions include:

  • President/Vice President
  • Living Area Senators (Off-Campus, Residence Hall, Commuter)
  • Academic Senators (number varies depending on size of college)
  • At-large Constituencies

Join a Cabinet Committee

The USG Cabinet has several cabinet committees that you can get involved with. Committees focus on specific areas and have anywhere between 2-40 members on them. Examples of Cabinet Committees include:

  • Internal Affairs & Marketing
  • Academic Affairs
  • Safety & Wellness
  • Student Life
  • Student Outreach  & Diversity
  • Government Relations

If you are interested in joining a USG Cabinet committee, please attend an information session, held each Tuesday at 8pm in Dreese Labs 113.

Serve on a University Senate or University Wide Committee

Committees determine university policies in every area of Ohio State. The students on these committees have the responsibility to represent undergraduate viewpoints to the administration and faculty. Examples of university committees include:

  • Council on Student Affairs
  • Athletic Council
  • Student Financial Aid
