Elections : EGB

The Election Governance Board

The EGB is made up of motivated individuals dedicated to ensuring that your vote matters so that you have a choice on how your money is spent, what events and services are offered, and even who respresents you as a student body.  Below is a list of the members of the board along with some of the thoughts they provided during the application process about why they joined the EGB or what missions they believe it fills. Perhaps their thoughts will kindle similar ones in your own mind; if so maybe you to should join the EGB team and help ensure next year's elections.  If you are interested please contact this year's director: Alex Liber via usgelections@gmail.com

Abbie Sprouse

Major: Biology

Thoughts about EGB:

"I  think the goals of the association are important to teach others not only while in school but also when out in the real world. Everyone should fully understand the magnitude of voting for leaders."

Catherine Smithers

Major: Psychology, Pre-Med

Thoughts about EGB:

"I also like the idea of upholding the credibility of USG through a program like EGB and would be pleased to be a part of that."

Corey Beals

Major: Biomedical Science

Thoughts about EGB:

"I have always admired the behind the scenes work, and I believe that EGB does a lot of this type of work. The things that EGB does for the election process go unknown to many, however they are a necessary part to the election process. Even though the role of EGB can sometimes be seen as a sort of police man, it is so much more and provides the very foundation of the elections."

John Reid

Major: Biomedical Sciences

Thoughts about EGB:

"I feel like the USG is an extremely important organization here at Ohio State and I would love to be a part of the election system. Those elected are trusted with a great deal of responsibility to improve our university. I do not wish to run for office myself however, so I feel that this is a perfect opportunity for me to participate in an alternative fashion "

Kristin Reeve

Major: Biomedical Sciences

Thoughts about EGB:

"After becoming frustrated with the way that EGB handled certain aspects of the USG elections last spring, I decided to join EGB in order to make a positive difference this year. My options were to sit around and gripe or to be proactive, and I decided to be proactive.

"

Michelle Jordan

Major: International Business

Thoughts about EGB:

"I am already RHAC representative of the Mack Hall student council, but i still feel a need to be more involved. I want to see how the election process work here at OSU. My high school didn't really use an election process, so this would be the first time I can really be a part of a school election. "

Seane Boone

Major: Biomedical Sciences

Thoughts about EGB:

"I think that promoting fair and efficient elections is an essential thing for the electoral process. For elections to be fair and efficient some organization is needed to referee and guide the candidates during their process towards election. "

Wesley Tamkin Major: Political Science

Thoughts about EGB:

"I decided to join the Election Governance Board because I believe that its role in the Undergraduate Student Government is both unique and important to the very foundations of the institution.  Beyond its often daunting task of keeping elections fair and equatable the EGB has an even greater semi-official goal of encouraging voter  turnout because the best way to ensure a fair election is to make sure  every one's voice is heard, and beyond that if a student will vote in his student government elections then he is that much more likely to vote in other elections throughtout his life.  Voting is like life: once you have it you don't want any one to take it away from you. It is your right."
