Question 1:
How would you make sure your constituents know who you are and how they can contact you?
That's actually a big issue and one of the focal points of my campaign. I believe the greatest problems facing USG is that the undergraduate body a) doesn't know all that we do and b) has little idea regarding how they can have their voices heard. As a Freshman, I had no idea what USG is or what it does until I joined it. I didn't even know who my Senators were or what they did. That needs to change. As a Senator, I will propose to make USG extremely transparent - you, the student, deserve to know about every single event that's going on in your student government. You also deserve the right to have your input in everything we do. I will use the USG website to ensure that you're kept up to date regarding projects at every point, from when they are just ideas until they are passed/rejected in Senate. I will also strive to make sure you have an acceptable forum from which you can easily voice your opinion on any issue you care about.
Question 2:
How do you respond to accusations that joining USG senate is all about resume padding?
To me, USG is all about making making a unique difference in students' lives and that's the reason that I initially joined USG - I saw around me common problems that the Engineering students were facing and tried to introduce and work on meaningful projects with impacting solutions. When I joined USG, it wasn't done to "pad my resume" or add "fluff" to it. I became a part of USG to try and tackle many of the problems that were facing the Engineering students - most of which were problems I had faced personally.
Question 3:
How would you like to see USG improve?
As I talked above (#1) I am really striving to make USG completely transparent by ensuring that you have an input throughout any project legislative project and are kept totally up to date on all the projects that we are currently working on. In addition to that, as an Engineer, I realize we have a lot of issues that desperately need good practical solutions. Books, for one, are extremely expensive and cumbersome. As a member of the Academic Affairs this year, I helped work on many of these same projects. As a Senator next year, I will introduce project ideas that will a) help pave the way for a new website ensuring that USG is very transparent, b) ensuring GEC books are still available in the libraries for use by anyone, as well as c) help introduce new initiatives striving to make an Engineer's life more easier, such as a new academic student advising center designed specifically for Engineers. I will also ask for your input and opinion during every step of the process.
Question 4:
Pick a ballot initiative, state your position and explain why you hold that position.
None
Question 5:
What is your least favorite day of the year; and why?
April Fools! It's that one day of the year where I question everything, from the news to television to what my friends are saying. Anything that sounds too nice sounds fake on April 1st; anything that sounds horrible sounds made up on April 1st. It's just a really confusing experience...
