USG Members at Service Project in New Orleans
The Executive Branch consists of a President and Vice President, the only two officials who are elected by the entire student body, who serve as the main spokesmen of undergraduate students at Ohio State. They appoint a cabinet, led by a Chief of Staff, to help improve and create university policies, events and activities to benefit the students.
The Legislative Branch consists of a fifty-nine person Senate, with one or more representatives elected from each living area, college and several at-large seats. Senators are expected to frequently discuss issues and concerns with their constituents, create legislation and resolution representing the needs and desires of students, work on individual projects benefiting their constituents and serve on a variety of University Senate Committees.
Finally, the Judicial Branch consists of twelve independent officers who make up the University Judicial Panel and who deal with nonacademic wrongdoing committed by students. The Judicial Branch is most active during the USG elections held annually each spring.
USG also has two independent positions, the Electoral Governance Board Director whose primary responsibility is to oversee the spring USG elections and a Treasurer who oversees the financial responsibilities of the organization. These positions are chosen by a committee of Executive and Legislative Branch members and must be approved by the Senate.
